Haiti Earthquake Crisis Relief - 2010-01-24

Dear PAMA members:

Several members of our association have asked if PAMA, as an organization, will donate funds for relieving the haitian crisis.  After consultation with past presidents and members of the board involved with similar situations, i concluded that it is not in the best interest of the association to make a donation in the name of PAMA. The rationale behind this is that making such contribution will open the gate for other charitable entities to solicit donations to PAMA in the near future. Instead, I encourage each member to donate individually to the charity of your preference.  Organizations such as doctors without borders (www.doctorswithoutborders.org), the american red cross (www.redcross.org) and unicef (www.unicef.org) are doing a wonderful job in Haiti and will benefit immensely from your donations.  Aside from that, and for the tax conscious, president Obama has enacted a law allowing each tax payer to deduct contributions made up to March 2010 and destined to the haitian crisis relief from the tax return form of 2009. Please address any comments regarding this issue to my email, segarrat@gmail.com.

Sincerely,

Thomas Segarra, Jr., M.D.

President, PAMA 2010
